True or False?

Tip of the Week: If you drop a can of soda or it gets shaken, to prevent it from exploding when you pop the top, use your thumb and middle finger to rub up and down the side of the can as you rotate it for about 20 seconds. Pop the top and enjoy. First seen in the Windsor Star...can this really work? Answers to info@canworld.net

Latest on the scandalous waste with bottled water..

In Bristol and surrounding areas tap water is tested 120,000 times per year. Bottled water is self regulated meaning that companies selling the stuff provide their own tests. When you consider that trust is soon forgotton when profits can be made, take horse meat as one example. Can we really trust these companies to tell us the truth. Health and Safety pointers

While the UK HSE has fined Ardagh and Crabtree over a worker injury one factor got my attention....
According to the HSE report "The court heard that Mr Allen was feeding the metal sheets into the conveyor of a coating machine when his wedding ring got caught and his finger was severed."

I recall a colleague who worked as an engineer for British Telecom and he was always told rings should not be worn when on duty as there was always this risk of having your ring finger torn if the ring got snagged in machinery....so......Check out Canworld.net

Let's have Soda that is good for our kids...

The soda producers are being rapidly pushed into re-thinking their products ...and the challenges include both the diabetes risks and the parallel FDA focus on caffiene ...the FDA “will investigate the safety of caffeine in food products, particularly its effects on children and adolescents.” Which means it could begin regulating how much caffeine can be added to our food and drinks.
Now is the time to formulate and market beverages with just fruit and water as the core ingredients. It cannot be beyond the skills set of such a huge industry to come up with a refreshing and appealing drink that is actually good for us all!!

Worrying trends for the industry..

Maybe the beverage big boys need to push quicker into real juice drinks after this latest finding....
(Reuters) - Drinking just one can of sugar-laced soda drink a day increases the risk of developing diabetes by more than a fifth, according to a large European study published on Wednesday.
Using data from 350,000 people in eight European countries, researchers found that every extra 12 fluid ounce (340 ml) serving of sugar-sweetened drink raises the risk of diabetes by 22 percent compared with drinking just one can a month or less.

Bit irritating for canmakers that the drinks carton industry projects a Green image ...when its recycling rates fall well behind those of both steel and alu cans....Until this summer (2013) and since 2006 any cartons collected in UK had to be shipped to Sweden for reprocessing the complex mix of card and plastics (imagine the carbon footprint!)...At least things will improve somewhat as Terta Pak just confirmed that..." I am pleased to confirm that an agreement has been signed and that a UK based carton recycling facility will be commissioned in the summer (2013).  The carton recycling scheme is managed by ACE UK (UK Beverage Carton Trade Association).
